Study on the Effect of Exhaust Gas Recirculation Coupled Variable Geometry Turbocharger and Fuel Quantity Control on Transient Performance of Turbocharged Diesel Engine

With increasingly stringent emissions regulations, there are growing demands for the transient performance of diesel engines. This study conducted a bench test on two-stage turbocharged heavy-duty engine to optimize its during load increase (20% 100% in 1 s) at constant speed (1200 RPM) process. The results showed that control scheme using low-pressure EGR system resulted 42.1% reduction peak value soot emission, 24.8% decrease NOx 9.14% ISFC and 30.6% maximum IMEP achieved s, compared steady-state optimization without EGR. Transient high-pressure 24.4% 31.8% 9.52% ISFC, 31.7% s. comparison high systems revealed produced lower compromising emissions, while alterations parameters with had more significant impact process performance.
